YouTube has announced that it will launch a redesign of YouTube TV’s UI later this summer. The company is celebrating its 20th birthday this Thursday and is previewing new features that are coming this year. YouTube TV’s new redesign will let users customize the multiview functionality with select non-sports content.
YouTube’s 20th year will allow for a customizable multiview with more non-sports TV channels
As per the official YouTube blog, YouTube TV will soon let you build your own multiview “with select non-sports content, starting with a small group of popular channels and expanding in the coming months.” The platform will roll out the new side-by-side channels viewing capability “in the next few weeks”.
For those unaware, YouTube TV’s multiview feature allows you to watch up to four TV channel streams at the same time. Initially, the multiview functionality served only sports content, but later it expanded to include support for some non-sports channels.
As of now, you can only pick from preselected multiview channels that YouTube TV offers. However, soon you’ll be able to add more non-preselected streams to the mode.
Easier navigation, playback, quality changes, and more are also in tow
YouTube TV’s redesign will offer “easier navigation, playback, quality tweaks, plus streamlined access to comments, channel info, and subscribing.” YouTube describes the changes as a “TV viewing upgrade.” Unfortunately, the company hasn’t yet officially showcased what all the aforementioned redesigns look like.
Earlier leaks have suggested that YouTube TV’s brand new redesign will make it look more like Netflix. It will reportedly show paid content from various streaming services on the homepage as well. We’ll get to see them soon enough, since Google-owned YouTube plans to launch the redesign this summer.
