Every year, Activision releases a new Call of Duty game, some introducing or reintroducing mechanics to the long-running franchise. A new leak suggests one of the series’ most controversial gameplay mechanics might be making a comeback in this year’s entry.
New leak suggests wall running could come to this year’s Call of Duty game
As spotted by X user @viipeter_ (H/T CharlieIntel), data miners found the wall running mechanic in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s files. According to the original tweet, it is currently unclear if this is some leftover file from Black Ops 3 (which introduced the mechanic) or if it’s meant for a new entry in the series.
It seems this will also act as the next stage for omnimovement. For those who are unfamiliar, omnimovement was introduced in Black Ops 6 to allows players to sprint and dive in any direction. Although it is a small tweak on paper, it noticeably impacts the player’s flow during a match. This would add another layer to the already available movement options.
Along with Black Ops 3, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare also featured the wall running mechanic. However, there was a lot of pushback from the community, as many voiced their negative opinions about the mechanic online. This inevitably led to Call of Duty: World War 2, which harkens back to the series’ roots with not a jetpack in sight. The controversial mechanic has been absent in every entry since.
While wall running is in the files of Black Ops 6, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the mechanic will be in this year’s entry or in the next Black Ops game. It could mean the developers are currently testing the mechanic. With that being said, we will know more when or if the company formally reveals the next game.
