Sony’s handheld game streaming device, the PlayStation Portal, seems to be a success for the company. In the company’s Corporate Strategy & Earnings Announcement Presentation for this year, it gives an update regarding the peripheral that may excite fans of the device.
Sony plans to focus on “strong” and “profitable” peripherals like PS Portal
In Sony’s presentation, the company specifically calls out the PS Portal’s success. As a result, the company said it would focus on peripherals that are “strong” and “profitable,” like the game streaming handheld device.
“We also plan to focus on strong and profitable peripherals such as PlayStation Portal where our recently introduced beta cloud streaming feature allows users to enjoy their games on the go more easily,” reads Sony’s statement.
How Sony intends to accomplish this is unknown. It doesn’t talk about its plans for its line of peripherals. This could mean the PS Portal could get an updated model with some minor adjustments and improvements. This could also be teasing the rumored PS6 handheld. This is all speculation, so we’ll just have to wait and see how this shakes out.
Sony also discusses its expectations for its games this fiscal year. Specifically, it states it anticipates “further growth in Studio Business” with new launches like Ghost of Yotei and Marathon.
“In this fiscal year, we anticipate further growth in Studio Business through a broader user base driven by new title launches, from narrative based single player titles like Ghost of Yotei and live service games such as Marathon, as well as the continuing success of already launched catalog contents and on going live service titles like Helldivers 2 and Destiny 2,” reads the statement.
