Figma rolls out AI features for site design, app prototyping, and branding

At its annual Config conference on May 7, 2025, Figma unveiled a suite of AI-driven tools aimed at streamlining the design process for websites, applications, and marketing materials. These additions position Figma as a comprehensive platform, challenging established players like Adobe, Canva, and WordPress.

Figma sites: From design to live website

Figma Sites enables designers to transform prototypes into fully functional websites within the Figma environment. The tool offers templates, interactive elements, and AI-assisted code generation for features like animations and transitions. An integrated content management system (CMS) is also in development, allowing for in-design blog post creation and asset management.

Figma make: AI-assisted app prototyping

Figma Make is a prompt-to-code tool that allows users to generate app prototypes by describing desired functionalities. Powered by Anthropic’s Claude 3.7 model, it supports collaborative editing and real-time previews. Designers can start from scratch or enhance existing designs, with the ability to publish prototypes as standalone web applications.

Figma buzz: Streamlined marketing asset creation

Figma Buzz caters to marketing teams by facilitating the creation of brand-consistent assets. It leverages generative AI to produce and edit images based on text prompts and can bulk-generate visuals from spreadsheet data. This tool aims to expedite the production of materials like social media posts and advertisements.

Figma draw: Enhanced vector illustration

Figma Draw introduces advanced vector editing capabilities, allowing for the creation of custom illustrations and scalable graphics. Integrated across Figma's suite, it provides tools for detailed design work without the need for external applications.

Integration of OpenAI's image generation

Figma has incorporated OpenAI's "gpt-image-1" model into its platform, enabling users to generate and edit images using text prompts. This integration allows for rapid visual ideation and iteration directly within Figma.

Availability and access

The new tools are currently in beta and accessible to users with full-seat subscriptions. Figma plans to expand availability and introduce additional features, such as the CMS for Figma Sites, in the coming months.
