Death Stranding 3 Ruled Out Unless Someone Else Makes It

Hideo Kojima has said that he won’t be making Death Stranding 3 even though he could technically make numerous sequels. However, he is open to the idea of someone else making it, provided a studio is willing to take the franchise forward.

Speaking to the media during a preview event for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Kojima referred to the concept of Plate Gate in the game, which allows protagonist Sam Porter-Bridges to continue traveling to new environments via a portal.

“If I use this Plate Gate concept, I could make endless sequels,” Kojima said, according to Eurogamer. “I, of course, don’t have any plans to do that, but I already have a concept for another sequel. I am not going to make it myself, but if I passed it on to someone else, they could probably make it.”

Interestingly, Kojima Productions recently acquired the rights to Death Stranding IP from Sony Interactive Entertainment, which means that it can land on any platform under a new publisher. The original game was a timed PlayStation console exclusive, and so is the upcoming sequel — both of which were published by Sony.
