Android 16 automatically hides some sensitive notifications from the lock screen
  • Android 16 hides the content of certain sensitive notifications from appearing on the lock screen, in particular notifications with OTP codes.
  • This follows a change in Android 15 that blocks untrusted apps from reading sensitive notifications with OTP codes.
  • This redaction only happens in high risk scenarios like when the device isn’t connected to Wi-Fi and hasn’t been recently unlocked.

Update, May 13, 2025 (1:30PM ET): Google has confirmed that Android 16 will automatically redact the contents of notifications containing one-time passwords (OTPs) from the lock screen. However, the company clarifies that this redaction will only occur in “higher risk scenarios,” such as when a user’s device is not connected to Wi-Fi and has not been recently unlocked.
