A new PlayStation State of Play was announced, but it may not be as exciting as fans were hoping for. The upcoming Gearbox Software-developed and 2K-published first-person shooter Borderlands 4 is getting its own presentation from Sony.

When is the Borderlands 4 State of Play?

The Borderlands 4 State of Play will be broadcast on Wednesday, April 30 at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT. Fans interested in seeing the latest news for the upcoming shooter can check out the stream on PlayStation’s Twitch and YouTube channels. The presentation will specifically focus on the game for 20-minutes.

“In this upcoming State of Play, strap in with me and Anthony Nicholson, Senior Project Producer, for over 20 minutes of developer-guided gameplay, including missions, killer weapons, exciting Action Skills, new and returning characters, and more,” reads a PlayStation Blog post regarding the Borderlands 4 event.

During the February 2025 State of Play, Gearbox Software and 2K showed a trailer that announced a September 23 release date. However, the developer and publisher announced that it is moving the release date up a few days. Specifically, Borderlands 4 will now launch on September 12. A specific reason for this decision is not known.

“After careful consideration — along with a LOT of meetings, playtesting, and incredible development work — we have made the monumental decision to move up the launch date of Borderlands 4 to September 12,” says the statement. “You’ll be able to crash into Kairos two weeks sooner. We’re beyond excited to share the new world with all of you ahead of schedule.”

Borderlands 4 is now available to wishlist on the PlayStation Store, which features the newly revealed key art for the game.

“Break free from the oppressive Timekeeper, a ruthless dictator who dominates the masses from on high,” reads the game’s description “Now a world-altering catastrophe threatens his perfect Order, unleashing mayhem across the planet.”
