Compact smartphones like the OnePlus 13T aren’t something you see a launch for in the US as often. Even budget devices these days come with fairly large screens. That’s why when OnePlus announced the 13T, US fans of the brand were likely excited for the prospect of having a smaller phone from OnePlus that was big on features and user experience, but not on size.

Well, those dreams are going to remain dreams, unfortunately. OnePlus has officially confirmed that it will not be launching the OnePlus 13T in the US. It’s not uncommon for brands to overlook certain global regions when releasing new devices. In fact, it happens all the time. It’s simply much less common when it comes to brands that are usually global. If a particular phone does skip certain markets, it’s also common to see it launch in those markets later on under a slightly different name. That is reportedly not happening this time around.

The OnePlus 13T launch will skip Europe, in addition to the US

OnePlus won’t just skip the US when it comes to the 13T. The phone will also skip Europe, though it is reported that it will still be launching in India as the OnePlus 13S. OnePlus officially launched the 13T in China back on April 24, following several leaks of the device that showcased “premium specs” prior to the reveal. Consumers had no reason to believe that the phone wouldn’t launch in the respective regions. However, it seems the OnePlus 13 and 13R are the only options that North America and Europe will have access to. That could always change, but as of right now, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.

OnePlus says there are “currently no plans” for a US launch

Although OnePlus’s confirmation is pretty straightforward, we’d be remiss if we didn’t float the idea that it is possible OnePlus might change its mind on the phone’s launch regions in the future. It’s also worth noting that we’re purely speculating here, based on the way things were worded. According to The Verge, OnePlus stated that it “currently has no plans to launch the OnePlus 13T in North America or Europe.” Currently isn’t “never.” Even if it is highly likely that “never” is what OnePlus is really saying. The statement seems open-ended in the event that things could change.

Other brands are offering similarly-sized phones

If OnePlus isn’t going to cater to the US consumer for a phone with a smaller screen, that doesn’t mean you don’t have any other options. In fact, Google offers a few models with screens that are very close to the same size. The OnePlus 13T display sits at 6.3 inches. Since that won’t be an option for US consumers, you could opt for the Pixel 8a, Pixel 8a, Pixel 9, or Pixel 9a. All of these have screens around 6.2 – 6.3 inches. Any of those is also likely the closest comparison for a phone that offers similar performance while being relatively inexpensive.
