There’s no end to the Tariff Turmoil in sight, as prices are set to skyrocket in the near future. We’re already seeing the effects of this with certain e-commerce sites like Temu and Shein. Both companies show people the effects of the tariffs on the price that people pay. Well, the biggest e-commerce site was about to do the same thing. However, Amazon has denied plans to show the effects of the tariffs on its prices.

The tariffs make importing products from different countries— especially China — more expensive. This means that customers need to pay more for these products. Prices are already starting to shift. As stated, Temu and Shein have been showing the effects of the tariffs on the prices. Shein includes a banner letting people know that their price has gone up, and it really makes the effects visible.

Amazon denies plans to show the effects of tariffs on its prices

While Temu and Shien are large companies, Amazon is still the top dog. Many people use Amazon to buy products from cheap tech trinkets to expensive luxuries. As such, the company pretty much has a responsibility to show how its prices are going to fluctuate. There were also some rumors that it was going to happen.

However, it appears that the White House got wind of its plans and intervened. According to CNBC, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt held a press conference. She told them that she “just got off the phone with the president about Amazon’s announcement.” That doesn’t sound suspicious at all. She then stated that showing the effects of the tariffs “is certainly a hostile and political action by Amazon.”

Now that this statement is out in the open, Amazon has denied its plans to show the effects of the tariffs. “This was never a consideration for the main Amazon site and nothing has been implemented on any Amazon properties,” said an Amazon Spokesperson. They explained, “The team that runs our ultra low cost Amazon Haul store considered the idea of listing import charges on certain products.”

Amazon would have been a saint for this

We know that Amazon is a major company. As such, it’s done some shady practices, many of which it’s been called out for. However, showing the effects of the tariffs would have been a show of goodwill. It would have showed the customers (people who have been screwed over majorly in this situation) what’s really going on.

However, it seems that this is not the case. If the White House pressured Amazon to walk back its plans, then it would be a massive blow to consumers. People deserve to know what’s going on, and they need to know that this massive trade war has consequences. Now, people are going to see massive spikes in price, and they won’t know the true cause.
