Borderlands 4 pushed forward because GTA 6

Gearbox Software and 2K recently announced a new release date for Borderlands 4. The game will now launch on September 12, several days before its original launch date. The reasoning behind moving the date up isn’t quite clear, but fans are speculating that Grand Theft Auto 6 is involved.

Is Borderlands 4 avoiding GTA 6’s launch?

In a recent post on the PS5 subreddit, Reddit user Turbostrider 27 shared a video of Gearbox Software’s Randy Pitchford confirming the new release date as well as the upcoming State of Play focusing on Borderlands 4. However, instead of fans sharing their excitement, many have begun speculating why the game’s release date has been pushed forward.

The vast majority of people who shared their thoughts speculate that they are avoiding GTA 6. This notion comes from the fact that both Gearbox Software and Rockstar Games are under Take-Two Interactive’s umbrella. This is also under the assumption that GTA 6 actually releases this year, though no release date has yet to be announced.

“Plot twist, he knows the date of GTA 6 and has to move [Borderlands 4] up,” said one Reddit user.

“Well, Gearbox is owned by Take-Two, same as Rockstar, so he probably does know something,” responded another.

“My guess is this means GTA is coming out in late October, hence why Sony announced Ghost of Yotei’s release date so suddenly,” said another Reddit user.

This is all speculation, so take all this information with a grain of salt. We don’t actually know if Borderlands 4’s release date was pushed up because of GTA 6. We will just have to wait and see when Rockstar Games decides to announce the launch date for its very highly anticipated open-world game.

Fans interested in the upcoming shooter can check out the Borderlands 4 State of Play on April 30 at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT.
