After a series of teasers and an alternate reality game, PlayStation has announced a reveal event for an upcoming first-party title. This weekend, we’ll finally get to see Bungie’s new multiplayer shooter, Marathon.
PlayStation asks fans to tune in for Marathon reveal event
Marathon gameplay reveal showcase will take place on Saturday, April 12, at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET. The livestream will be broadcast on PlayStation’s YouTube and Twitch channels.
Unlike other first-party games, Marathon won’t be a PS5 console exclusive. The game will launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC simultaneously.
For the uninitiated, Marathon is a reboot of Bungie’s 1994 shooter of the same name. The upcoming title is a sci-fi PvP extraction shooter.
“A massive ghost ship hangs in low orbit over a lost colony on Tau Ceti IV,” a synopsis reads. “The 30,000 souls who call this place home have disappeared without a trace. Strange signals hint at mysterious artifacts, long-dormant AI, and troves of untold riches.”
Marathon does not have a release date. Although Saturday’s event is focused on showcasing some gameplay, there is a chance we’ll hear about Bungie’s release plans.
Marathon is Sony’s next major live service endeavor following last year’s Concord, which failed to take off. 2024’s Helldivers, on the other hand, turned out to be a commercial success.
