The Galaxy S25 FE chipset might be a familiar one. According to a new report, Samsung’s next Fan Edition phone could skip a CPU upgrade entirely and stick with the Exynos 2400e from last year’s Galaxy S24 FE.

Android Authority reports that the device—codenamed R13—appears in internal code alongside the part number s5e9945, which points directly to the same Exynos 2400/2400e chip that powered the S24 FE. For context, the S23 FE used codename R11 and the S24 FE was R12.

If that pans out, the Galaxy S25 FE will likely fall behind the competition in raw performance. It’d be running a chip that trails not just Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, but also newer options like the Snapdragon 8 Elite and MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400.

The Galaxy S24 FE launched in September 2024. It offered a 6.7-inch AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, 8GB of RAM, and up to 512GB of storage. You got a 50MP triple camera setup, Galaxy AI features, and a 4,700mAh battery with 25W fast charging.

The S25 FE is expected to follow a similar template—toned-down flagship design, similar specs, and a midrange price tag. However, with the Galaxy S25 packing newer silicon, it’s hard to ignore the fact that Samsung might be holding the FE line back a bit.

The launch is expected sometime between late Q3 and early Q4 this year. It’ll likely arrive alongside other FE-branded hardware, including the rumored Galaxy Z Flip FE, which might also share the same Exynos 2400e chip. If that’s true, Samsung’s FE lineup could be leaning hard on last year’s tech to keep pricing in check.
