Titan Capital launches new investment vertical to back defence tech startups

Seed-stage venture capital firm, Titan Capital has launched a new investment vertical that will look to back defence tech startups in the country as the VC ecosystem shows a growing interest in the deeptech segment.

Titan Capital aims to back startups that are at the intersection of advanced hardware, aerospace, cybersecurity, and manufacturing.

“We are at a historic inflection point where national security, deep-tech innovation, and startup agility are converging. India cannot achieve true self-reliance in defence by relying on imports or public funding alone. We need to back our brightest minds—engineers, researchers, and builders—to create sovereign, dual-use technologies that can shape not just India’s future, but the future of global defence. At Titan, we’ve always been a founder-first firm. This vertical extends that ethos into a sector that has national consequence,” said Kunal Bahl, Co-founder of Titan Capital.

As part of this initiative, the firm is also looking to collaborate with veterans from the armed forces, scientists, and experienced technologists who can help guide investments.

VCs have increasingly turned their attention to backing deeptech firms in recent times, lured by the growing government support and technology innovation driving companies in this sector. Moreover, global venture capital is also accelerating the focus on defence tech.

The Indian government has also increased its defence budget to Rs 6.81 lakh crore for FY25-26 and has launched schemes like iDEX and Technology Development Fund to support homegrown innovations, Titan Capital noted.

The company’s portfolio includes Razorpay, IPO-bound Urban Company, and OfBusiness, among others.
