Last year, the HONOR Magic V3 (review) foldable smartphone impressed everyone with a jaw-droppingly slim waistline of 4.35mm (when unfolded). Apart from a thin design, HONOR was also able to equip the Magic V3 with the largest battery we’ve seen on a foldable smartphone so far – 5,150mAh. However, the HONOR Magic V5 will take things to a whole new level. Recent sightings of the phone in a couple of Chinese databases suggest that it will receive a significant battery boost.
HONOR Magic V5 could get an even larger 6,100mAh battery
Recently, a new HONOR phone with the model number MBH-AN10 appeared in the database of China’s MIIT and 3C certification websites. Rumors suggest that this will be HONOR’s next foldable offering, the Magic V5 (and not the Magic V4). As per the listing on CMIIT, the alleged Magic V5 has a 2,070mAh and a 3,880mAh dual-cell battery.
This means that the HONOR Magic V5 will have a rated battery capacity of 5,950mAh. Do note that the company may market the next Magic foldable with a 6,100mAh typical battery. It’s worth pointing out that Vivo’s upcoming X Fold 5 foldable smartphone could offer a 6,000mAh battery.
The CMIIT and 3C listings also suggest that the Magic V5 will charge at 66W using a wall charger. Notably, the Magic V3 that launched last year also supports the same charging speeds.
What can we expect from the Magic V5?
Furthermore, the CMIIT listing suggests that the Magic V5 will offer Beidou-3 connectivity for short messaging services (SMS). As per the earlier reports, the new phone could have a 6.45-inch LTPO OLED cover display and an 8-inch 2K inner screen, both with a high refresh rate of 120Hz.
We can expect the Magic V5 to either go for the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip or the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 SoC. The company could fit it with a 50MP main rear camera that’ll support OIS. It could be accompanied by a 200MP periscope telephoto lens and an ultra-wide lens.
HONOR could equip the device with an IPX8-rated water-resistant design and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. If we believe the leaks, the company may launch its next Magic foldable offering sooner this year.
