One of the main uses of AI is being able to keep records of your interactions with other people. Google’s Call Notes is one of them, and it could be a super useful feature, with just one pretty annoying issue. Well, Google could fix it by bringing automatic call recording to Call Notes.

In case you don’t know what Call Notes is, it’s a feature that Google launched with the Pixel 9 series. As such, this is a feature exclusive to the Pixel lineup. Using Gemini, Call Notes will create a detailed summary of the conversation. It will extract key information from the call and use AI to create the summary. This is a great feature for people who want to remember important details about their calls.

There is one pretty annoying issue with this feature. In order to use it, you have to manually activate it for each call. This is a problem because it’s pretty easy to forget to enable the feature. You don’t want to be halfway through a business call and realize that you forgot to enable it.

Google could bring automatic call recording to Call Notes

Right now, it’s tough to know when/if this feature will roll out. Google hasn’t given any indication that it will roll it out, so we’re operating on rumors. About eight months ago, code discovered in the Google Phone beta hinted at people being able to automatically activate Call Notes for specific calls.

The code still exists in the app, and Google made a change that could hint at a rollout. Google originally said that the automatic activation feature was only for internal testing. However, the company made a slight change to the naming. It was previously called “Automatic Call Notes”, but the company changed it to “Automatic Call Recording”.

The fact that Google changed the name of the feature to something a bit more user-friendly suggests that it could release this feature to the public. We can’t say for sure at the moment, but there’s a chance.
