A new PlayStation Store sales promotion has begun, bringing some of the best prices for the fantastic games on PS4 and PS5. This includes a beloved JRPG that was originally released on the PS1 and may be getting a remake in the near future.
Final Fantasy IX is 60% off on PS Store
Final Fantasy IX is currently $8.39 on the PS Store. This is a 60% discount off its typical $20.99 price tag. Players do have a bit of time to grab this deal, but shouldn’t procrastinate. The offer ends May 8 at 2:59 A.M. ET.
“The Tantalus Theatre Troupe visits the Kingdom of Alexandria to help celebrate Princess Garnet’s birthday,” reads the game’s description. “However, the troupe is actually a group of thieves and their real intension is to kidnap the princess! Meanwhile, a young black mage called Vivi arrives to watch their performance but is at a loss when he realises that he only has a forged ticket… In a picture book-like world of fantasy, Zidane the thief, Princess Garnet and Vivi get tangled up in an emotional and magnificent crystal adventure!”
When Final Fantasy IX launched for PS1 in 2000, it received overwhelmingly positive reviews. According to review aggregate site Metacritic, it received an average score of 94 across 22 critic reviews. Although it’s not as recognized as some of its predecessors, it is currently the highest-rated game in the long-running series on Metacritic.
This is a pretty great time for Final Fantasy IX to be on sale. The lauded JRPG is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Square Enix recently opened a website dedicated to the milestone. Around the same time as the website opened, the publisher teased a potential announcement, with rumors pointing to the game getting a remake. We’ll just have to wait and see if those rumors come to fruition.
