Go Fish Quest Guide For Oblivion Remastered

Go Fish is an early side quest you can take on in Oblivion Remastered. If you played the original Oblivion, you might remember this quest as particularly challenging to complete. Not so much because of the quest's difficulty, but because of how it plays out. The plot of the quest has you helping out a man named Aelwin Merowald, who needs to secure 12 rare Rumare Slaughterfish Scales so he can retire properly. However, those 12 Rumare Slaughterfish are some of the hardest creatures to locate in all of Cyrodiil. For help completing the Go Fish quest in Oblivion Remastered, check out our full walkthrough of it below. Starting the Go Fish questGo Fish begins by speaking to Aelwin Merowald outside of his home in the small town of Weye. You can locate the town just west of the Imperial City, and Merowald is standing in front of his house near some bushes. By speaking to him, you learn of his backstory and why he needs 12 Rumare Slaughterfish Scales. You don't want to choose the dialogue option to laugh at Merowald, as that ends the conversation entirely. After listening to Merowald, agree to help him find the scales. He'll tell you that the scales can be looted off the Rumare Slaughtefish that reside in the nearby lake. If you track the Go Fish quest from your journal, you'll see a green quest marker pop up on your compass that leads you to the lake. How to collect Rumare Slaughterfish ScalesWhen you head into the lake to follow your first quest marker, you need to go under the water's surface and look for a long, white, slender fish. There are other, more normal-looking fish in the lake, but the Rumare Slaughterfish is the only one that has a black nameplate pop up on the screen when you hover over them.Once you find the fish in the lake, you need to bring out a melee weapon or spell and attack the fish. It will take a couple of strikes to kill the fish, and it can attack you, but it doesn't take long to bring down. When the fish dies, make sure to follow where their body goes so you can loot it and retrieve the Rumare Slaughterfish Scales. The most difficult part about retrieving the scales is staying underwater for long periods of time, as your character can't hold their breath for more than 10-15 seconds before needing air. To make that process easier, you can craft or consume a Potion of Water Breathing to hold your breath for longer. After you find the first Rumare Slaughterfish Scale, follow your new green quest marker to the next fish's location. Your quest markers keep changing to show you the new location of each fish after you collect scales. As you progress with finding the scales, you'll make your way around the entire lake, so the fish aren't all in one general area. What to do if you can't find a Rumare SlaughterfishNow, let's get to the most likely reason you've come to this walkthrough. Go Fish was notoriously bugged in the original Oblivion, and true to form, the developers didn't mess with the jankiness of the quest in the remaster. The way Go Fish is supposed to work is you follow the quest markers, and at each one, you find the fish you're supposed to kill and loot. However, more often than not, the green quest marker is not an indicator of where your next Rumare Slaughterfish is located. Instead, the fish can be just about anywhere in the lake. While some fish will be within 20 or so meters of the quest marker, others can be much farther away or even beached on a nearby shoreline. The best method I found when I had a quest marker that didn't lead to a fish was to head straight for the shore. Most of the time, the Rumare Slaughterfish were simply swimming in place along the shore. My second fish was even sitting underneath the dock, as you can see in the screenshot above. While you might get a few quest markers that lead to a fish, you'll usually have to search around the lake's direct vicinity to find the fish you need to kill. You can also use the lake itself to find the Rumare Slaughterfish. By keeping your head above water and looking in the direction of a quest marker, you can often see white bubbles and thrashing coming from a specific spot on the lake's surface. This indicates that a Rumare Slaughterfish is nearby and, regardless of where your quest marker says to go, you want to head to that white bubbling. Chances are you'll find a fish in that area. Completing Go FishOnce you have collected all 12 Rumare Slaughterfish Scales in Oblivion Remastered, you can return to Aelwin Merowald, who's at the same spot you found him in Weye. It's best to come during the morning hours, as Merowald is usually sleeping at night. When you tell him you've collected all 12 scales, he thanks you and rewards you with the Jewel of the Rumare ring. This ring is enchanted with water breathing and a fortify athletics spell. It's also worth 2,550 gold if you want to sell it. After you receive the ring, the Go Fish quest comes to a merciful end in Oblivion Remastered.
