Xiaomi recently confirmed that it will launch its very own custom mobile chip, the Xring O1, later this month. This is a pretty big deal, as it’s the company’s first custom system-on-a-chip (SoC) for mobile devices since the Surge S1 back in 2017. If you were worried about the performance it will offer, early test results on Geekbench benchmark suggest that the Xiaomi Xring O1 chip is packing more power than initially expected.
Before these latest findings, earlier whispers hinted that Xiaomi’s upcoming chipset would perform somewhat similarly to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. This SoC powered many flagship phones and tablets throughout 2023. That would have been respectable, but the new Geekbench scores are turning heads.
Xiaomi’s Xring O1 chip up to 50% more powerful in Geekbench multi-core than Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
In recent Geekbench tests, the Xiaomi Xring O1 hit (25042PN24C) scores of 1860 in single-core and 7449 in multi-core. Let’s put that into perspective. If we look at two popular Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered phones, the Xiaomi 13 scored around 1615 (single-core) and 5056 (multi-core). Meanwhile, the Galaxy S23 Ultra achieved 1918 (single-core) and 5104 (multi-core) in the same tests.
What do these numbers tell us? The Xring O1 appears to offer single-core performance that’s right in line with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. However, where it really shines is in multi-core tasks. The chip seems to be about 50% more powerful than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2!
Surprisingly, the Xring O1 even seems to outdo the newer Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in multi-core performance. For example, the 2024 Galaxy S24 Ultra, equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, scores around 6654 in multi-core tests, though it does beat the Xring O1 in single-core performance (2124 points).
So, while the Xiaomi Xring O1 might not directly compete with the absolute top-tier chips expected in 2025’s flagships, it’s certainly bringing more raw CPU power to the table than many anticipated. Rumor has it that the Xiaomi 15S Pro will be the first device to feature this new SoC later this year. It remains to be seen how much graphics card performance (GPU) the hardware will offer. Hopefully, it’s on par with Qualcomm’s hardware in that department as well.
