Spotify subscription price hike set to hit Europe and Latin America

Spotify is getting ready to raise prices again — this time, users in Latin America and Europe are in the crosshairs. The music streaming giant has raised costs in the past, but the next Spotify subscription price hike is set to roll out starting in June.

According to a report by The Financial Times, Spotify plans to increase its Individual plan by €1 ($1.14). It might not sound like much, but it’s part of a bigger trend.

Recently, Spotify quietly bumped up all its plans in the Netherlands and Luxembourg, where the Individual plan now costs €12.99 ($14.76), up from €10.99 (~$12.48). That’s an 18% jump. Family and Duo plans got more expensive too, and sources say the price increases “will intensify considerably this summer.”

Good news if you’re in the US: the Spotify subscription price hike won’t hit you just yet. Instead, Spotify is working on a new “super-premium” tier. If it launches, you can expect a $6 price bump — but it’ll supposedly come with extra features to justify the cost.

We don’t know exactly what those perks are yet. However, a recent code dive into the Spotify iOS app hints at some clues. Strings mentioning “Explore plans and get more from your Premium experience with add-ons” suggest that subscribers might get to customize their experience. FT also reports that Spotify might start holding back some new music releases behind this higher-priced tier.

Whether that’s a smart move or a risky one remains to be seen. Either way, one thing’s clear: Spotify’s days of keeping prices steady are officially over.
