The Nintendo Switch 2 is turning a lot of heads after its reveal last week. This even includes Sony, as they’ve started asking players their thoughts on the upcoming system, which has sparked hope for another PlayStation handheld.
Sony asks about Nintendo Switch 2 in recent survey
The news comes from notable video game leaker eXtas1s, who received a survey from Sony asking its customers their thoughts on the newly revealed Nintendo Switch 2. Specifically, the company asks customers about their interest in buying the new console, their opinion of the Nintendo Direct, why they’re most excited about the console, and the three main reasons why they’ll be purchasing the console.

As some may have expected, this has reignited hopes about Sony creating a portable console. In a recent Reddit thread, some players voiced their desire for a follow-up to the PSP and PS Vita.
“I know the Portal is cheaper, but local gaming will always be superior than streaming,” says one user on the PS5 subreddit. “Especially when your streaming protocol is crap even on a local network. I want a proper new PSP.”
“They’re clearly checking if there’s an opportunity to expand their ecosystem with an independent handheld to reach more people,” says another Reddit user.
Sony creating a new PlayStation portable console is a dream scenario for fans, but unfortunately, this may not indicate the God of War maker is making a new portable. This could simply be Sony conducting market research and doesn’t lead to anything the consumer sees. Gamers will just have to wait and see if anything comes out of this.
For now, players can enjoy PlayStation games portably with the PS Portal, a handheld device that streams PS5 games. It has been rumored previously that Sony is prototyping a standalone handheld console partially based on the success of the portable streaming device.
