Summary: Samsung could announce the Android 16-based One UI 8 update in July during its second Unpacked event of 2025. But not only that, as the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 would run the new software out of the box. So, the OTA rollout could take much less time than that of One UI 7.

The slow development process for One UI 7 has angered many Galaxy device fans. The Android 15-based update for Samsung smartphones and tablets has been a long time coming. That said, everything points to the wait for the next big update being much shorter. A reliable source claims that Samsung will launch One UI 8 in July, and it may even come pre-installed on its next-gen foldables.

This isn’t the first time we’ve read about a similar rumor. Reports from early March suggested that, due to the long wait for the One UI 7 rollout, Samsung had canceled all “intermediate updates.” That is, the company would focus on releasing One UI 8 as the next software upgrade for eligible Galaxy devices. However, there were still no specific details about when it would arrive.

Samsung tipped to announce One UI 8 in July; Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7 would run it at launch

Now, SamMobile claims that Samsung will launch the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 in July, running One UI 8 out of the box. That is, the bizarre situation of One UI 7 taking many months to arrive would be an exception, not the new norm. The company would have taken so long to develop One UI 7 because of the many improvements and changes it was implementing.

After having done all the heavy lifting on One UI 7, developing One UI 8 will be a walk in the park in comparison. After all, the changes implemented in the Android 15-based update will be the basis for future One UI generations. This is normal, as we can’t expect a revamped design language every year. Plus, Samsung could now focus primarily on new features for One UI 8.

Fans of Galaxy devices would welcome a quick rollout of One UI 8. It could be the ideal apology from the company to its users for the delay of Android 15. If Samsung launches devices running One UI 8 out of the box in July, it likely won’t take too long to roll out the OTA to more eligible models.

Google will release Android 16 earlier than usual

Recall that Google will release Android 16 earlier than previous updates. The company implemented a new development model that allows it to release new versions of the mobile OS faster than before. The Mountain View giant is expected to announce Android 16 stable at the upcoming Google I/O event (May 20 and 21).

Meanwhile, Android device makers are already working on their updates. Even Samsung is conducting internal firmware testing, as reported a few weeks ago.

It is unknown whether Samsung will launch a public beta program for One UI 8. However, if it does, the Galaxy S25 series will likely be first on the list of eligible devices.
