For several years now, Galaxy S Ultra device users have enjoyed the S Pen as an exclusive feature. Only these phones and the Galaxy Tabs are compatible with the stylus accessory. As of today, this doesn’t seem likely to change, at least in the short term. However, Samsung could separate the S Pen from future Galaxy S devices by getting rid of the dedicated slot, according to a recent report.

According to tipster PandaFlashPro on X/Twitter, Samsung is mulling the idea of separating the S Pen from its Galaxy S Ultra devices again. The post adds that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will continue to include the S Pen. However, its presence is by no means guaranteed for models starting with the Galaxy S27 series. The change would return us to a situation similar to that of the Galaxy S21 Ultra. That is, the phone would be compatible with the accessory, but you decide whether to purchase it separately—or not.

Samsung may have been considering a similar decision for some time. Last year, the company downgraded the S Pen on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. It no longer supports Bluetooth-dependent features like Air Actions and remote camera shutter. Additionally, the company completely removed S Pen support from the Galaxy Z Fold SE.

In mid-March, a Samsung representative said, “I don’t see a space where the S Pen is not a key part of our portfolio.” This seems to clearly indicate that the company will not get rid of the S Pen. However, technically, the alleged change Samsung is considering would not be a removal of support for the accessory but rather a “separation.”

Potential pros and cons

Samsung’s potential move would have its pros and cons. On the upside, there would be more physical space available inside the Galaxy S Ultra devices for more components or even a larger battery. The drawback is that Samsung might remove the accessory without reducing prices or providing customers with any additional value.

If you’ve been a Samsung fan for years, you’ll remember that the company’s “Ultra” flagship phones haven’t always supported the stylus. The inaugural model on the lineup, the Galaxy S20 Ultra, wasn’t compatible at all. The following year, the South Korean giant implemented S Pen support in the Galaxy S21 Ultra. However, you had to buy it as a separate accessory along with a special case. After all, that device didn’t have a slot to store and charge it.

Starting with the Galaxy S22 series, Samsung made its more expensive smartphones even more appealing. The company turned them into the “new Galaxy Note” by integrating an S Pen slot in the device. Since then, all Galaxy S Ultra models have offered the accessory along with several exclusive features.
