8BitDo suspends U.S. shipments due to new China tariffs

If you’ve been meaning to buy an 8BitDo controller, now might be the time. According to a report from Polygon, the company is suspending all shipments from its Chinese warehouse to the U.S. because of the Trump administration’s new 145% import tariffs on Chinese goods. This includes game controllers.

This isn’t just 8BitDo. Other companies like Anbernic are pulling back, too, and the entire video game and tabletop industry is feeling the squeeze. Some are freezing U.S. shipments entirely, others are raising prices, and a few are even laying off staff.

U.S. customers can still order in-stock items from 8BitDo’s U.S. warehouse. But it’s a gamble. The website doesn’t clearly label which products are U.S.-based—you’ll only find out at checkout, when certain items get flagged as “cannot be shipped.”

That means some of the company’s best-selling gear is currently out of reach: the Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller, the Nintendo 64 mod kit, the retro mechanical keyboard, and the adorable mini Xbox controller. If you’re lucky, the 8BitDo Micro (popular for Anki users) and the new retro-style mouse are still available domestically.

Even Nintendo isn’t safe. The company reportedly had to delay pre-orders for the Switch 2 and quietly raised accessory prices in response to the new import costs.

Want one before it disappears or becomes more expensive? Check if the 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth Controller is still available in your region. If you act fast, you can still save $20 on it.
