Android’s latest monthly security patch continues to roll out across the entire catalog of eligible Galaxy mobile devices. Samsung has already pushed it out to many phones, both recent and older. And speaking of older phones, the Galaxy S20 series is already receiving the March 2025 security update.
The Galaxy S20 lineup holds a special place in the history of Samsung’s flagship phone lineup. It ushered in a change in the nomenclature of the brand’s premium handsets. It also included the first “Galaxy S Ultra” model with its impressive 200 MP main camera, whose announcement surprised the industry.
The March 2025 security update arrives on the Galaxy S20 lineup
The Galaxy S20 series arrived in 2020, so it doesn’t benefit from Samsung’s updated software support policies for flagship devices. In other words, it’s not eligible to receive One UI 7. In fact, Android 13-based One UI 15 was the last major OS update it received. However, Samsung continues to offer support in the form of security patches. Due to their age, these devices don’t receive monthly security updates, but rather quarterly ones. Now, the March 2025 security update is arriving on time for the Galaxy S20 series.
As reported by SamMobile, the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra are receiving the OTA in some countries. There are some markets where the new firmware is reaching the 5G variants, while in others it’s only reaching the 4G units. Yes, the Galaxy S20 series is from the era where companies were still releasing 4G variants of their flagship products. For now, the Galaxy S20 FE is not receiving the patch, according to the report. However, the situation could change in the coming days.
The March security update for Galaxy devices fixes up to 58 vulnerabilities. Google provides the majority of the fixes (51) for the Android core. Samsung, on the other hand, includes seven fixes for security holes in its hardware/software.
