Summary: The OPPO Find X9 family could end up utilizing a 200MP camera. It’s just a rumor for now, however, and we don’t know if it refers to the main or periscope telephoto camera. If we had to guess, we’d say it’s the latter. The OPPO Find X9 series won’t launch until Q4 this year.

According to a new rumor from China, the OPPO Find X9 family could end up using a 200MP camera. The information comes from Smart Pikachu, a tipster, though he’s still not sure what camera will be.

He’s not sure if OPPO plans to use it for a main or periscope telephoto unit. Chances are that it’s the latter, however. Both HONOR and Vivo have had great success with 200-megapixel periscope telephoto cameras. On the flip side, Samsung is using a 200-megapixel main camera on its flagships.

An exact sensor is not mentioned here, but it could be the ISOCELL HP9 unit that Vivo used in the Vivo X200 Pro. That proved to be an outstanding sensor for the periscope telephoto camera. Well, most of the credit goes to Vivo’s processing and ZEISS, of course.

It would be interesting to see OPPO make this leap, though. The OPPO Find X7 Ultra relied on a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera, which was good and everything, and its successor will likely do the same.

The ISOCELL HP9 is a 1/1.4-inch camera sensor, though, compared to a 1/2.51-inch one that OPPO used on the Find X7 Ultra and Find X8 Pro. That 200-megapixel camera has a much larger sensor.

The OPPO Find X9 series won’t launch until Q4 this year, however. The focus now is on the OPPO Find X8s, Find X8+, and Find X8 Ultra. Those are the three phones that will launch on April 10. The ‘Ultra’ model is especially interesting.

OPPO announced its ‘Lumo’ imaging engine yesterday, though Hasselblad is not going anywhere. Lumo will be focused mostly on portrait photography, and there’s a lot of tech included.
