Samsung’s next big upgrade isn’t a new display or AI feature—it’s the battery. According to a new report out of Korea, Samsung solid-state wearables are on the horizon, with the Galaxy Ring leading the charge.
Money Today reports that Samsung plans to launch its first wearable with a solid-state battery in Q4 2025. That device? The Galaxy Ring.
Unlike lithium-ion cells, which use liquid electrolytes, solid-state batteries use solid electrolytes. That makes them more thermally stable and even more exciting for wearables; they can be molded into flexible shapes while offering better energy density.
Samsung has already developed a 200Wh/L version, but it’s reportedly working on an upgraded model capable of 360Wh/L. That’s a huge jump, and it could mean longer battery life in smaller devices.
That being said, solid-state batteries aren’t cheap. The tech is still expensive to produce, and while Samsung is moving ahead, we’re not sure what kind of margins we could be looking at.
Still, the company reportedly wants to roll this tech out beyond the Galaxy Ring. Future Galaxy Buds with solid-state batteries could land as soon as 2026, with the Galaxy Watch following in 2027.
Also, who knows? Maybe in the future, this type of battery technology could find its way to our smartphones as well.
