Summary: Samsung has opted for DB GlobalChip’s display driver for its Galaxy A26 smartphone. With this, DB GlobalChip debuts in the smartphone OLED display driver segment.

Samsung launched the Galaxy A26 5G alongside the A36 and A56 about a month ago. The A26 features Samsung’s in-house Super AMOLED display with a V-shaped notch and Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection. While Samsung manufactures the display panel, the company made a surprising move by sourcing the display driver from a third-party vendor instead of using its own for the Galaxy A26.

The Galaxy A26 uses DB GlobalChip’s display driver

According to the Korea Economic Daily (KED) Global Edition report (via SamMobile), Samsung has integrated an OLED display driver IC (DDI) from DB GlobalChip into the Galaxy A26. The new chip, known as TCON embedded driver IC (TED), serves as a physical component that directly connects to the display panel. It sends signals to the display’s pixels to enable interaction.

DB GlobalChip has previously manufactured display driver ICs for televisions and tablets. However, this marks the first time the company has developed a display driver for a smartphone. The new display driver chip currently supports full high definition plus resolution. The OEM claims that it enhances the power efficiency and durability of the Galaxy A26’s display with its chip.

DB GlobalChip also confirmed that it will manufacture OLED driver chips for premium smartphones. This suggests that it may also provide driver support for flagship devices that have OLED panels with 1.5K, 2K, or a higher resolution. Traditionally, Samsung has relied on its in-house display driver ICs for its smartphones, but with DB GlobalChip entering the segment, future Galaxy Z or Galaxy S series devices might also adopt third-party display drivers.

Galaxy A26 key specifications

The Galaxy A26 is powered by Exynos 1280 or Exynos 1380 processor, depending on the region. In terms of optics, it gets a triple camera setup at the back, with a 50-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization support, an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 2-megapixel macro lens. At the front, it features a 13-megapixel selfie shooter. A 5000mAh battery powers the phone, which can be topped up with 25W wired charging.

The phone runs on the latest Android 15 with One UI 7 on top. Samsung has promised to provide 6 major Android upgrades for the phone. The device has an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. A side-mounted fingerprint scanner is used for security. The phone is available in Black, White, Mint, and Peach Pink color options. The Galaxy A26 is available to purchase for $299.99 in the US.
