It looks like Sony’s gearing up to reveal its next big PlayStation Studios game, if teasers on social media are anything to go by. We might finally see more of Bungie’s Marathon — a multiplatform extraction shooter — following its announcement in 2023.
Marathon will be the next big PlayStation Studios live service game
Official PlayStation social media accounts have been updated with Marathon imagery, and Bungie itself has been leading fans to an alternate reality game (ARG) in anticipation of the event. As of yesterday, players have managed to datamine several soundtracks from the upcoming title.
According to known insider and journalist Jeff Grubb, Sony has something planned for next week. We’re not sure if Bungie is gearing up for a full Marathon reveal or it plans to drop new information about the shooter.
Whatever the case, some fans are keeping their expectations in check. Marathon comes after the high-profile disaster Concord, and although Bungie has extensive experience in crafting multiplayer shooters, it has lately been struggling to keep players engaged with Destiny 2.
Still, some fans remain optimistic, and are hoping that Marathon will be the next live service success story for Sony after Helldivers 2. After all, the company paid a pretty penny for Bungie and we’ve yet to see the gamble pay off.
