I Tested Tons of AI Resume Builders - These 8 Are the Absolute Best

Let me be honest - building a resume that gets you hired is not so easy. But why? Because building a resume depends on multiple factors, like who you are, what job you are applying for, and what the company is looking for. You can't simply create a resume and then send it to 100+ companies on LinkedIn. And when you finally sit down to specifically write one, you get tons of questions like: Should I use a template or build from scratch? How do I format it? Do I need to add all my achievements and create a one- or two-page resume? Will this even pass through the ATS? This is where AI resume builders are helpful, as they are trained on numerous professional resumes to help you create one according to your requirements. And the best part? These AI resume builders can create your resume in minutes using smart templates and bullet points that match the job description you provided. But you can't simply trust any AI resume builder out there, and so I tried 25+ AI resume builders in the past 3 weeks to find out the best one for you. Resume Writing Service from Fiverr Now, let me be honest - you're probably thinking about using an AI resume builder just to create a resume that'll help you get hired. But here's the worst part: most of them aren't that great, and they're definitely not as smart as they claim to be.

And when you finally sit down to specifically write one, you get tons of questions like:

  • Should I use a template or build from scratch?
  • How do I format it?
  • Do I need to add all my achievements and create a one- or two-page resume?
  • Will this even pass through the ATS?

This is where AI resume builders are helpful, as they are trained on numerous professional resumes to help you create one according to your requirements.

And the best part? These AI resume builders can create your resume in minutes using smart templates and bullet points that match the job description you provided.

But you can't simply trust any AI resume builder out there, and so I tried 25+ AI resume builders in the past 3 weeks to find out the best one for you.

The problem with most "AI resume builders"

If you Google "best free AI resume builder", you'll actually find tons of options.

But after testing 25+ of them myself, I can confidently say - most of them are simply useless. In short, most of these AI resume builders are just expensive template apps pretending to use AI.

They will tell you that they use AI, but what they actually do is:

  • Ask you to fill in your info
  • And then add your info to a pre-made resume template and call it AI

Here's what you actually need:

  • An AI resume builder that actually uses AI and is easy to use
  • Lets you choose modern, responsive resume templates (I'm talking about the trending ones)
  • Understands your profession, generates bullet points with AI, and helps you match your resume to the job description.
  • Optimizes it for Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS)
  • And obviously, writes like a human and not the same generic content that ChatGPT can do

Well, while researching the best free AI resume builders, I focused on these parameters, and based on that, I found the 8 best AI resume builders you can choose from.

Let's start with the recommendations.

1. Resume Writing Service from Fiverr

Now, let me be honest - you're probably thinking about using an AI resume builder just to create a resume that'll help you get hired.

But here's the worst part: most of them aren't that great, and they're definitely not as smart as they claim to be.

That's why I recommend you simply hire an expert from freelancing platforms like Fiverr.

Why Fiverr? It's a trusted, affordable platform that I've been using for years, and you can create your resume from an expert.

And you will get an expert who can create your resume the way you want, and you can even ask for revisions, and more.

So, how do you get started?

Just visit Fiverr and search for "resume writing".

You can also search for "cover letter", "ATS resume writing", and more, depending on what you need.

Once you're on there, you'll see a ton of experts.

This way, you save time and get a personalized resume from a professional - something an AI resume builder just can't match.

2. Sheets Resume

Now, the second-best AI resume builder I want to talk about is Sheets Resume, and they claim that their resume format has been used by millions of job seekers since 2018.

And the best part? The founders are ex-recruiters for the Fortune 100, and they have actually gone through tens of thousands of resumes in the past while recruiting top talent - and with that experience, they built Sheets Resume.

Getting started is easy, you just need to visit their resume builder, and then click on the button, "Create My Resume".

It gives you three options to begin with:

  • Start with your existing resume
  • Start with your LinkedIn profile
  • Start from scratch

I've selected the first option, and uploaded a dummy resume to see how it works.

Well, it filled up the data automatically from my uploaded resume, which I can further edit, and here's what it generated:

And here's the part I love the most - it guides you in every step about what to fill, what you can modify, and has the option to use AI suggestions as well.

In the last step, you can download your resume in multiple formats, and for that, you need to pay a one-time fee that gets you lifetime access.

If you don't have the budget, you can download their free resume template, and fill in your info on your own.

One last thing I love: the founders also encourage users who can't afford a lifetime membership to reach out to them via email and simply ask for a free temporary one.

I found this to be such a generous way to help out job seekers who may not have much income at the moment!

3. Rezi

When I was searching for the best AI resume builder on Google, Rezi was present at the #1 position.

And when I visited their website, they shared that they have 3.37 million users, with an average user review of 8.23/10, 837 professional resume samples to choose from, and one can generate a "resume + cover letter" within 5 minutes, perfectly optimized.

With all this info, I made up my mind to at least try it, and I liked it a lot.

But how to get started?

Well, you need to visit their website and click on the button "Get Started" to create an account. Then it will ask you some simple questions like how you want to create your resume and which type of resume you want to generate.

Source: Rezi

And the best part? It will ask you about your dream job, the role you are targeting, the domain, and then the job description.

Source: Rezi

After that, you need to fill in all your info - from your contact info to experience, education, and more. I've simply asked ChatGPT for some dummy data to fill in here.

And here's what it generated:

You see, I can further customize it, get the resume score, and on the right side, it suggests a number of improvements using AI.

Talking about the pricing, it's completely free to generate a resume with AI, and you can even download your resume in PDF format.

And if you want more AI features, you can go with the paid plans.

4. Teal

Now, this is more than just an AI resume builder since it offers extra features like a job application tracker, resume checker, resume summary generator, and cover letter generator.

Source: Teal

What I really like is how it works: First, you need to add the job you want to apply for, either manually or by using the Teal Chrome extension to save jobs.

Then, you can build a specific resume using AI, specific to what that job requires, and track everything right inside the AI resume builder.

So, how do you get started?

Source: Teal

Just visit the website and click the "Sign Up" button to create your account.

It'll ask you a few simple questions to build your resume for a specific job using AI. After that, you can start tracking your job applications and more - all in one place.

I tried it myself by entering some dummy data to create a resume.

As you can see, I can edit my resume on the left, use AI to improve the content, and preview the resume on the right.

Talking about the pricing, you can get started for free with all the essential features.

If you need some advanced features, there's a paid plan too.

Lastly, here's a quick and simple guide to help you understand the process:

5. ChatGPT

I know, it's not an AI resume builder, but let me be honest - it's one of the best ways to generate your resume in seconds.

I even compared most AI website builders with ChatGPT, and guess what?

ChatGPT was far better than most of the so-called AI resume builders.

The reason is simple: ChatGPT has been trained on a massive amount of resume data, while most "AI website builders" are simply using OpenAI's API to power their so-called AI features.

Getting started is easy; you just need to visit ChatGPT and write a specific prompt.

Just to give you an example, here's a prompt that I wrote with some dummy data:

I'm Alex Carter, living in San Francisco, CA, USA - a web developer with over 4 years of experience in developing websites, with email: alex.carter.dev@example.com, mobile number: +1 (555) 123–4567, LinkedIn profile: linkedin.com/in/alexcarterdev, and my portfolio link: portfolio.com.

Here's my working experience: …

And here's my education, certification, and skill set: …

Can you create an ATS-friendly resume that can easily help me get hired in a Docs format?

And here's what ChatGPT generated:

Insane, right?

6. Kickresume

This AI resume builder is recommended by literally every post present on the internet when I was going researching to write this post.

I'm talking about Kickresume.

And it provides feature like AI resume builder, AI cover letter builder, ATS resume checker, proofreading, Ai resignation letter generator, and more.

Source: Kickresume

What I like is they honestly wrote that they are powered by OpenAI's GPT-4 models to produce human like text, and generate your resume in seconds.

But how to get started?

Source: Kickresume

Well, you simply need to visit their website, and click on the button, "Create My Resume" to create an account.

Source: Kickresume

And then you need to select the option "Create your resume with AI", and it will ask some simple questions like your personal info, the resume template you want to go with, your skills, work experience, and more.

The best part is they have a feature to create your resume based on a particular job description.

Source: Kickresume

And for that, you just need to add the job title, company name, and the job description to generate one.

Talking about the pricing, you can use most of the basic features and download your resume for free.

Source: Kickresume

And if you want some more advanced features, you need to upgrade to a paid plan.

7. Enhancv

This is another popular AI website builder that I've heard about literally in every post.

And the working is pretty simple - create your account, choose the template, add your info, and then ask the AI bot to make it better.

How to get started?

Source: Enhancv

Well, you just need to visit their website, and then click on the button, "Build Your Resume".

Source: Enhancv

Then it will ask a couple of simple questions, like whether you have an existing resume, select the resume template, and then add your info.

Source: Enhancv

As you can see, it's literally customizable - you can add or delete the sections you want, rearrange them, change your design and font, and more.

And the best part? You can ask the "AI Assistant" to make your resume better & more professional, as you can see below.

Source: Enhancv

Talking about the pricing, you can use all of the features, from customization to using the AI assistant, and more for free (valid for 7 days).

Source: Enhancv

And if you want some advanced features, you can go with the paid plan.

8. Resume.io

The last AI resume builder I want to talk about is Resume.io.

I didn't actually know about this one, but when I visited their website, I got to know that they have 48.26 million users so far, along with all the features that one needs.

But how to get started?

Source: Resume.io

You just need to visit their website and click on the button, "Create my resume", and then select the template you want to go with.

Source: Resume.io

Then you need to create your account using Email, Google, or more, and then it will ask you how you want to create your resume.

Source: Resume.io

Since we are talking about AI resume builders, I will choose the option "Create with AI assistance".

And then upload my info like personal information, education, work experience, skills, and more.

Here's what it generated:

Source: Resume.io

The only issue is that when I'm downloading the resume in the PDF format, it's asking me to upgrade.

Source: Resume.io

Sure, I can download it in TXT format for free, but it's not so useful - so one needs to go with the paid plan.

Do you really need these AI resume builders?

In short, if you want to build a professional resume that can help you land the job, you should definitely use any one of these AI resume builders.

And if you don't like or trust the AI resume builders, there's even an option to hire an expert from Fiverr.

After using it myself and seeing the outputs from all these, I can say with confidence that they are a lot better than most other AI resume builders out there.

When it comes to pricing, you can get your resume almost for free from most of the provided AI resume builders.

And obviously, if you want some advanced features, you need to upgrade to the paid plan.

Hope you like it.

That's it - thanks.
