Google has just announced that it will be streaming a virtual event on May 13 – The Android Show: I/O Edition. According to Google, this will show off the latest updates coming to the Android ecosystem. With that said, we’re expecting to learn more about the final release of Android 16, which we still expect to be on June 3.

Below is a teaser of what to expect from The Android Show: I/O Edition. The teaser doesn’t show much, just Samaat getting ready for the show, and it looks like Google is filming this in the Google Store on the Mountain View campus. You can also head to the event’s page to learn more.

This announcement almost confirms very little Android news at Google I/O

Unfortunately, Google’s live streaming event ahead of Google I/O for Android, kind of, sort of means that there’s going to be very little Android-related news at Google I/O the following week. Last year, Google’s opening keynote was over two hours of just AI. And we’re expecting something similar this year.

However, Google has said that Android will still have a presence at Google I/O, stating, “stay tuned for more updates in keynotes and technical sessions for developers.” Of course, we have heard that Material Design 3 is going to debut at I/O, which obviously includes Android.

Finally, Google says that this won’t be live, but live streamed. It’s a pre-recorded video that will start on YouTube Live at 10AM PT and 1 PM ET on May 13.
