FFXIV Cosmic Exploration Begins With Patch 7.21 Launch
Cosmic Exploration now lets Final Fantasy XIV players head to Source’s Moon, as the FFXIV Dawntrail patch 7.21 debut added the new feature, its sidequests, and new activities and rewards for helping to develop Sinus Ardorum. As long as you’re currently on your home world and not traveling to another one on the Data Center in the MMORPG, you can go through Stellar Missions, help the Lunar Development Initiative, get Disciples of the Hand and Land tools, and get new equipment, dyes, a mech mount, and a robot minion. All this first came up in the 7.2 Letter from the Producer Live before its debut, and the official patch notes are live. To start, Square Enix noted we can only get to the Sinus Ardorum base camp on the moon once we finish the main scenario quest “Endwalker” and start the new side story quests. Drivingway in Mare Lamentorum (X:21.9 Y:13.2) will let you go between the planet and moon. When you land, you can pull up your new Exotablet tool to contribute to the Lunar Development Initiative with Stellar Missions. These involve gathering materials to develop facilities and your camp. So one mission the company highlighted is a Northwestern Vicinity Survey that involved gathering 25 items from select gathering points in three minutes. You’ll then get a star score based on it. Items you get will be put in your Cosmopouch, and you can then use your Cosmic Crafting Log to make new items. Some of these tasks could be sequential or be limited by the time of day, if there’s a red alert, or a certain type of weather is happening. The patch notes also went over some other unique experiences that come from heading to the moon. There will be Mech Ops, which allow us to either be ground support for a pilot or a mech pilot for a certain Duty. You do need to pay Lunar Credits for a Pilot Application, and only five random players will be picked as pilots and not ground support. However, if you aren’t picked as a pilot, you get your application fee back and get better odds of being picked next time. We can also Join FATE to take on a “large-scale project” on the moon. Both of these can involve special rewards and currencies. Here is how to start all of the Cosmic Exploration sidequests in Final Fantasy XIV, though note that you must be at Disciple of the Hand or Land level 10 and have finished the FFXIV Endwalker MSQ storyline to start. “A Cosmic Homecoming” - Meet Namingway at Old Sharlayan (X:12.6, Y:13.6). (Note that finishing this gives you a Cosmic Prototype Coffer that gives you a cosmic tool for your current class.) “Passion, Thy Name is Ardorum” - After finishing “A Cosmic Exploration” and clearing a requisite Cosmic Exploration rank, you’ll be notified that you can speak to Searchingway at Sinus Ardorum (X:20.4, Y:20.0). “A Manager's Patience” - Finish “Passion, Thy Name is Ardorum” and continue Cosmic Exploration work until you can meet with Mumukko at Sinus Ardorum (X:21.6, Y:21.1). “A Manager’s Persistence” - After “A Manager’s Patience” is done, return to Mumukko at Sinus Ardorum (X:21.6 Y:21.1).
