Every now and then, we hear about streaming services, be they video or audio, increasing their subscription price. Spotify is one such example. In the past, Spotify has raised the subscription costs in multiple countries across the globe. But this time, Spotify’s subscription price increase is likely to hit users in Latin America and Europe.
Spotify is likely to increase the subscription price in Latin America and Europe
According to a report by The Financial Times (FT), Spotify will increase the price of the Individual subscription plan by €1 (~ $1.14). The music streaming giant is reportedly planning to introduce the price hike starting in June of this year in countries across Europe and Latin America.
More recently, Spotify quietly increased the price of all its subscription plans in the Netherlands and Luxembourg. In both countries, Spotify’s individual plan now costs €12.99 (~ $14.76). That’s an 18 percent jump from the previous €10.99 (~ $12.48).
That’s not all; Spotify also hiked the price of both Family and Duo plans in both regions. An insider has also told FT that Spotify’s push for increased price “would intensify considerably this summer.”
U.S. subscribers won’t have to pay the hiked price
If you are living in the US, fortunately, you don’t have to pay Spotify’s increased subscription price. However, the company is willing to bring a super-premium option. While you can expect to see a rise of $6, there’ll be additional perks to cover that hike.
While it’s unclear what exactly these add-ons will be or when they will be available, a code tinkerer recently spotted code strings in the Spotify iOS app. It reads, “Explore plans and get more from your Premium experience with add-ons.” The FT report also notes that the music streaming giant is also mulling over options to restrict new music releases to subscribers paying for super-premium services.
