Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra vs Samsung Galaxy S24: Design

There are similarities between the two phones, but they’re very easy to set apart. Other than the size difference, the Galaxy S25 Ultra also comes with sharper corners, and thinner display bezels. So you can set it apart even when you’re looking at the phones from the front. Both of them have a centered display camera hole up top, and a flat display as well. That size difference is quite jarring, though.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is made out of titanium and glass, while the Galaxy S24 utilizes aluminum and glass. The power/lock button and the volume rocker keys are located on the right-hand side of both phones. The Galaxy S25 Ultra also has an S Pen stylus tucked away in the bottom-left corner. The frame is flat on both smartphones, all around the device. Their backplates are also different.

Backplates on both phones are flat, but the camera setup is different in comparison. While both phones have cameras protruding directly from the backplate, the sheer number of them is different. The Galaxy S25 Ultra has five protrusions, while four of those are reserved for cameras. The Samsung Galaxy S24 has three separate protrusions on the back, and all three are for the phone’s cameras.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is considerably taller, wider, and a bit thicker than the Galaxy S24. That is to be expected considering that it’s a larger-format flagship, while the Galaxy S24 is a compact phone. The ‘Ultra’ is also around 50 grams heavier in comparison, which is quite a difference. Both smartphones are IP68 certified for water and dust resistance. Both of them are also quite slippery, while the Galaxy S24 is easier to use with one hand due to its size.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra vs Samsung Galaxy S24: Display

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra features a 6.9-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X display. That panel is flat, and it has an adaptive refresh rate (1-120Hz). HDR10+ content is supported on this panel, and the peak brightness it can offer is 2,600 nits. The screen-to-body ratio is at around 92%, while the resolution on offer is 3120 x 1440. The display aspect ratio you’re getting here is 19.5:9. This display is protected by the Gorilla Glass Armor 2 from Corning.

The Galaxy S24, on the other hand, has a 6.2-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X display. This panel is flat as well, and its refresh rate goes up to 120Hz. HDR10+ content is supported, and the peak brightness is 2,600 nits. The resolution of this display is 2340 x 1080 pixels. The screen-to-body ratio is at around 91%, while the display aspect ratio is 19.5:9. The Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protects this panel.

Both of these displays are great. They’re vivid, have good viewing angles, and they’re more than sharp enough, considering the sizes of the two displays. The touch response is very good on both phones, while the blacks are as deep as you’d expect them to be. They’re both also bright enough. The Galaxy S25 Ultra’s panel does have a major advantage, though, thanks to the Gorilla Armor 2, though. Thanks to that protection, the phone’s display fights off glare with great success, it’s a considerable difference compared to the Galaxy S24.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra vs Samsung Galaxy S24: Performance

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor. That is a 3nm processor from Qualcomm, its most powerful chip for this year. This is also an overclocked variant of that chip. It is paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM inside the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The phone also utilizes UFS 4.0 flash storage.

The Galaxy S24, on the other hand, is fueled by either the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy or Exynos 2400 chip. Both of those are 4nm processors, and the Exynos is used in Europe. We used the Snapdragon variant, however, and this one is also overclocked compared to the regular version of the chip. The phone utilizes up to 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM and either UFS 3.1 (128GB model) or UFS 4.0 (other variants) of storage. Neither phone supports storage expansion.

Both of these smartphones deliver in the performance department, very much so. Despite the fact the Galaxy S24 is a year older, it still offer great performance. Yes, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is a bit snappier in some ways, when it comes to launching apps, for example, but the Galaxy S24 can keep up. That goes for gaming too. Both phones do get quite warm with demanding games, but overheating was not a problem. Once again, we’re talking about the Snapdragon version of the Galaxy S24 here.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra vs Samsung Galaxy S24: Battery

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra features a 5,000mAh battery on the inside. The Galaxy S24, on the flip side, uses a 4,000mAh unit. That battery capacity difference is to be expected considering the difference in their size. In case you’re wondering, yes, the Galaxy S25 Ultra does offer better battery life. The Galaxy S24 is not bad in that regard, but it simply cannot compete with the company’s latest ‘Ultra’ phone.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra has managed to provide us with truly high screen-on times during our usage. Going over 9 hours of screen-on time was possible, and we were even able to hit the 10-hour mark. Yes, gaming was not a part of our usage on those days, and yes your mileage may vary based on how you use the device. The Galaxy S24 cannot get close to that level, at all. Still, it can offer good battery life if you’re not a power user. If you are, well, it’s possible you’ll have to charge it before the end of the day. The battery life is notably better than on the Galaxy S23, though.

In terms of charging, the Galaxy S25 Ultra supports 45W wired, 15W wireless (Qi2 Ready), and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. The Galaxy S24, on the flip side, supports 25W wired, 15W wireless, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. The Galaxy S25 Ultra takes around an hour to fully charge, while the Galaxy S24 needs around 15 extra minutes on top of that. Neither device comes with a charger in the retail box.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra vs Samsung Galaxy S24: Cameras

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra has four cameras on the back. It includes a 200-megapixel main camera (1/1.3-inch sensor size), a 50-megapixel ultrawide unit (120-degree FoV), a 10-megapixel telephoto camera (1/3.52-inch sensor size, 3x optical zoom), and a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera (120-degree FoV).

The Galaxy S24, on the other hand, has three cameras on the back. There is a 50-megapixel main camera (1/1.56-inch sensor size) included, along with a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera (1/2.55-inch sensor size, 120-degree FoV), and a 10-megapixel telephoto unit (1/3.94-inch sensor size, 3x optical zoom).

Yes, the Galaxy S25 Ultra has better camera hardware across the board, and yes, it does offer better results. Images from the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s main camera usually offer more details in comparison, while that camera also does a notably better job in low light. It manages to retain more detail, and there’s less noise in the images. The colors also look better in low light. The Galaxy S24 tends to oversaturate more often than the Galaxy S25 Ultra, when it comes to their main cameras.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra does a far better job at high-zoom ranges, while it also takes the cake at zoom levels up to 3x. That goes for low light too. Yes, even its ultrawide camera is more capable, as it manages to offer more details and better images overall. The Galaxy S24 does a good job in the camera department, but it cannot compete with the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Audio

Both of these devices feature stereo speakers. They actually offer similar loudness, even though the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s are technically louder. The sound quality is good from both, but we preferred the ‘Ultra’, by a small margin.

There is no audio jack on either phone. You can use their Type-C ports in order to connect your wired headphones, though, with a dongle. Alternatively, the Galaxy S25 Ultra supports Bluetooth 5.4, while the Galaxy S24 offers Bluetooth 5.3 support.
