Another round of PS Plus discount offers came and went, with Essential users voicing their frustration over being left out yet again. Discounts have been relatively scant ever since the service was revamped, and Sony is increasingly opting for personalized offers that vary between members, but Essential almost feels like the third wheel in presence of Extra and Premium.
PS Plus Essential discount offers are few and far between
To be clear, PS Plus Essential does receive discounts, but it’s mostly once a year during the Black Friday sales period. Since Sony personalizes offers, some players have gotten lucky but for the most part, Essential is left out of discount schemes.
Over on gaming forums like Reddit, players have been venting about lack of deals, with some going as far as coming up with alternative methods to make Essential a tad cheaper, like availing Costco and Dollar General PSN card discounts. Others have planned their subscriptions around the annual Black Friday sale since those discounts are only offered to new members or those whose subscriptions have expired.
Sony understandably wants to promote the pricier PS Plus plans, but there’s a sizeable part of the community using Essential, so it’s frankly baffling that the tier gets overlooked as much as it does. Here’s hoping that this changes, but we don’t advise holding your breath.
