Motorola Razr 2025 vs Apple iPhone 16 comparison

Yesterday, we compared the Motorola Razr 2025 with Apple’s latest budget smartphone. This time around, we’ll be comparing the Motorola Razr 2025 vs Apple iPhone 16. So, in other words, Motorola’s new base foldable vs Apple’s vanilla iPhone 16 handset. It’s another foldable vs non-foldable phone comparison. The iPhone 16 is the more expensive smartphone here, as it costs $100 more in comparison.

With that being said, there are a lot of differences between these two devices, of course. In addition to the fact that one is foldable and the other is not, they also look considerably different in general. Their internals are also quite a bit different, and so on. We’ll first list their specifications and will then move to compare their designs, display, performance, battery life, cameras, and audio output.

Motorola Razr 2025 vs Apple iPhone 16: Design

As you can see, both of these phones have flat displays. The Motorola Razr 2025’s panel includes a centered display camera hole up top, while the Apple iPhone 16 has a pill-shaped cutout in the same place. That cutout is called ‘Dynamic Island’. Apple’s handset has slightly thinner display bezels. The Motorola Razr 2025’s frame is slightly rounded, while the iPhone 16’s is flat.

The Motorola Razr 2025 has all of its buttons on the right-hand side. The power/lock button sits below the volume up and down buttons, when the phone is unfolded. It’s the other way around when it’s folded. The iPhone 16, on the flip side, has a power/lock button on the right. There is also the Camera control button on that side. Its volume up and down buttons are on the left. There is also the Action button on the left-hand side, a button that replaced the mute switch.

If we flip them around, you’ll see completely different setups. The Motorola Razr 2025 has a secondary display back there, and two cameras placed inside it, basically. They’re horizontally aligned. The iPhone 16 has two vertically aligned cameras in the top-left corner. Both setups protrude on the back.

The Motorola Razr 2025 is considerably taller and wider when unfolded, as it has a notably larger (main) display. It is also thinner when unfolded, but considerably thicker when folded. Motorola’s handset is also 18 grams heavier in comparison. That phone comes with an IP48 certification for wtaer resistance. The iPhone 16 is IP68 certified for water and dust resistance. Apple’s phone is easier to use with one hand due to its size, but the Motorola Razr 2025 is grippier. It’s made out of aluminum and eco leather, while the iPhone 16 utilizes aluminum and glass.

Motorola Razr 2025 vs Apple iPhone 16: Display

The Motorola Razr 2025 has a 6.9-inch Foldable LTPO AMOLED main display. That panel is foldable, and it supports 1 billion colors. It also supports HDR10+ and offers a resolution of 2640 x 1080. It offers an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz, and the peak brightness is 3,000 nits. The screen-to-body ratio here is around 85%. The second display measures 3.6 inches, and it’s an AMOLED panel. It supports 1 billion colors and HDR10+ content, along with a 90Hz refresh rate. Its peak brightness is 1,700 nits. This display offers a resolution of 1066 x 1056.

The Apple iPhone 16, on the flip side, has a 6.1-inch panel. That is a Super Retina XDR OLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate. It supports HDR10 content and Dolby Vision. The peak brightness here is 2,000 nits, and the resolution it offers is 2556 x 1179 pixels. The screen-to-body ratio is at around 87%, while the display aspect ratio is 19.5:9. This panel is protected by the Ceramic Shield glass.

All displays are good, but there are differences. The iPhone 16’s panel doesn’t offer a high refresh rate, while both of Motorola’s do. The peak brightness of the Motorola Razr 2025’s main panel is also higher in comparison. All displays are vivid, have good viewing angles, and good touch response, though. They’re also more than sharp enough.

Motorola Razr 2025 vs Apple iPhone 16: Performance

The MediaTek Dimensity 7400X fuels the Motorola Razr 2025. That is MediaTek’s 4nm chip, a mid-range processor. It comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 flash storage. The Apple A18 chip fuels the iPhone 16, that is a 3nm chip. It also comes with 8GB of RAM, while NVMe flash storage is used. Neither of these two smartphones supports storage expansion, so keep that in mind.

The Apple A18 chip is way more powerful in comparison. The Dimensity 7400X is not only a mid-range chip, but it’s also only a slightly higher clocked Dimensity 7300X chip, which is a year older. Based on initial impressions, the Motorola Razr 2025 does offer good performance, but stutters are included in the experience, as they were with the Razr 2024. The difference in performance between the two phones is obvious. The iPhone 16 will be better in that regard, which is to be expected.

The same can be said for gaming, actually. The iPhone 16 is more powerful and definitely caters better to gaming, especially demanding games. You can play basically any game from the App Store without a problem. The Motorola Razr 2025 may not be as good with truly demanding games, even though you’ll be able to play them.

Motorola Razr 2025 vs Apple iPhone 16: Battery

A 4,500mAh battery sits inside the Motorola Razr 2025. The battery is a bit larger than the one in last year’s model. The iPhone 16 includes a 3,561mAh battery. It is worth noting that iPhones usually have smaller battery packs, and the fact that the iPhone 16 has a considerably smaller main display, considerably. That is actually a really good battery size for both smartphones, actually, and both of them do good in that regard.

There is no doubt regarding which one will offer better battery life, though. The iPhone 16 pulls ahead, easily, it has outstanding battery life and allows you to get truly high screen-on times. The Motorola Razr 2025 comes with two displays, and battery longevity will largerly depend on how much you use the cover display vs the main one. In general use, it will not be able to keep up with the iPhone 16. We haven’t tested it just yet, but we do expect to see a bit better battery life than on the Motorola Razr 2024.

When it comes to charging, the Motorola Razr 2025 supports 30W wired and 15W wireless charging. The iPhone 16, on the other hand, supports 30W wired, 25W MagSafe wireless, 15W Qi2 wireless, and 4.5W reverse wired charging. The Motorola Razr 2025 does take over an hour to fully charge, but not by much. The iPhone 16, on the other hand, takes over an hour and 40 minutes to fully charge. Neither phone comes with a charger in the retail box.

Motorola Razr 2025 vs Apple iPhone 16: Cameras

The Motorola Razr 2025 has two cameras on the back. It includes a 50-megapixel main unit (1/1.95-inch sensor size) and a 13-megapixel ultrawide camera (1/3.0-inch sensor size, 120-degree FoV). Those two cameras can also be used as selfie cameras due to the cover display on the back. There is also a selfie camera on the main display, in case you need it for video calls or something.

The Apple iPhone 16, on the other hand, also has two cameras on the back. It includes a 48-megapixel main camera (1/1.56-inch sensor size) and a 12-megapixel ultrawide unit (120-degree FoV). As you can see, neither phone has a telephoto or periscope telephoto camera included, unfortunately. You’ll have to rely on digital zoom in both cases. That’s certainly something you should keep in mind.

With that being said, the iPhone 16 is the better camera smartphone here, no doubt about that. The Motorola Razr 2025 will provide similar photos to its predecessor due to hardware similarities. That means you’ll get good photos, but limited in some ways. The iPhone 16 is not outstanding in that regard, not at all, but it will do a better job in low light, that’s for sure. Its phone will also look closer to real life, if that’s what you’re aiming for.

Audio

There are stereo speakers included on both of these phones. Both sets of speakers are loud enough, and they’re generally good enough. There are some differences, but not something many of you will care about. We did prefer the output from the iPhone 16, though.

There is no audio jack on either smartphone, however. You can utilize their Type-C ports in order to hook up your wired headphones, though. Alternatively, you can use Bluetooth 5.4 on the Razr 2025, and Bluetooth 5.3 on the iPhone 16 for wireless audio connectivity.
