Oura gets initial win against Ultrahuman in patent infringement case
The United States International Trade Commission called out Ultrahuman, particularly for having falsified evidence of a manufacturing facility in Texas

India-based smart ring maker Ultrahuman received an unfavourable initial determination in an ongoing case with Oura ring from the United States International Trade Commission.
The ruling, made on April 26 by Administrative Law Judge, found both Ultrahuman and Chinese rival RingConn had violated patents related to Oura's smart ring technology, as per a blog post shared by Oura.
"We respectfully but firmly disagree with the recent Initial Determination and remain confident in our position," said an Ultrahuman company spokesperson.
"This category has enormous potential to transform human health, but it has too often been shaped by companies that rely on legal intimidation, legacy patent acquisitions, and questionable procurement tactics rather than innovation," the company added.
The initial determination found that Ultrahuman and RingConn’s products infringe every element of every asserted claim of Oura’s patent.
As per the blog post, Ultrahuman was particularly called out for having falsified evidence of a manufacturing facility in Texas.
"Our fast-scaling Texas facility is set to cover 100% of US demand within the next 2–3 months—underscoring our commitment to domestic operations and customer-first innovation," added the Ultrahuman representative.
Over a year ago, Ultrahuman announced plans to open a manufacturing facility in Indiana, the US, in a press note. The factory, which was expected to open in six months since the announcement, would be based on the company's first operational model from India. During the same time, the company claimed to be on track to surpass $100 million in ARR by the end of 2024.
As per media reports, Ultrahuman is in talks to raise over $120 million in a fresh round led by WestBridge Capital, among other private equity investor players.
Oura, the company behind the Oura Smart Ring, closed its latest funding round in December 2024, where it raised $200 million from Fidelity Management & Research Company and Dexcom at a valuation of $5.2 billion.
