Summary: The e-commerce giant Amazon has started testing a new feature called ‘Buy for Me’, which uses agentic AI to buy products from other online retailers on your behalf. The new feature is live in Amazon’s iOS and Android apps in the US for a limited number of users and brands.
Amazon has started testing a new e-commerce feature called ‘Buy for Me’. It can use artificial intelligence-powered agents, allowing Amazon to buy things from other online stores on your behalf. This is an extended version of the test Amazon ran in February when it started showing products from third-party retailers and linking to them.
Amazon’s ‘Buy for Me’ feature uses AI to buy products from other websites on your behalf
Amazon announced that its ‘Buy for Me’ feature helps consumers discover and seamlessly purchase select products from other brands’ websites when those items are not available in Amazon’s store. The functionality runs on Amazon’s Nova AI system, which now has a new model capable of performing actions within your browser, alongside Anthropic’s Claude.
As of now, the tech giant is testing this feature with a limited number of brand stores and products. It will incorporate more brand stores and items based on the feedback from consumers.
How does the ‘Buy for Me’ feature work?
Amazon has integrated the ‘Buy for Me’ feature into its own shopping experience. It allows consumers to quickly and easily discover additional item selections. When you search for items in the search bar in the Amazon shopping app, you’ll see relevant results from the company and third-party sellers. In some cases, Amazon shows a separate section of search results labeled ‘Shop brand sites directly.’
You can use links directly to the third-party stores within Amazon’s shopping app. Once you tap an item having the Buy for Me label, you’ll see a product detail page within the app. It has all the relevant information on the item, similar to product detail pages for products Amazon sells.
If you decide to proceed further, Amazon will make the purchase from the other retailer’s website on your behalf. Then, a checkout page will appear where you can confirm your order details, delivery address, payment method, and more. Amazon will then use AI agents to “securely” provide your “encrypted name, address, and payment details to complete the checkout process on the brand’s website.”
Amazon’s new feature is available in its iOS and Android apps in the US. As of now, the e-tailer is testing the functionality with a limited number of users. However, it will roll out the feature more widely based on customer feedback.
