Apple’s iPhones look boring. Don’t get us wrong, they’re perfectly functional. However, after keeping to the same-ish design for the past few years, it’s gotten a bit stale. The good news is that if you can afford to wait it out a couple more years, the iPhone 19 Pro will be getting a bold new design worth waiting for.

More glass

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its iPhone series, Apple will introduce a bold new design to the iPhone 19 Pro series. Gurman specifically mentions the Pro model, which means that the base iPhone 19 might skip on this new design.

Apparently, this bold design will feature the “more extensive use of glass.” Apple has typically used a mix of both glass and metal in its iPhone designs. For example, the current iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models feature a glass back. It doesn’t quite feel like glass because it’s so closely bonded to the metal, but there’s definitely glass present.

This is unlike previous iPhone models, like the iPhone 4 series, where the glass was more prominent.

iPhone 17’s design

But what about the upcoming iPhone 17 series? Based on the past leaks we’ve seen, Apple will feature some design changes. However, it won’t be a huge departure from the current design. The most obvious change is to the camera module on the back. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will be the most obvious here.

The camera module now stretches to the sides of the phone, whereas right now, the camera module resides as an “island” in the corner of the iPhone. However, we are questioning the upcoming design. This is because, in between the camera lenses and the flash module, there’s a bit of an awkward gap. We’re not sure what Apple plans to do with that gap, but it is borderline unsightly.

Other than that, if you don’t take into account the iPhone 17 Air, the rest of the iPhone 17 lineup will look more or less the same as its predecessors. As for the 2026 iPhone 18 series, we haven’t really heard anything about a redesign. Apple is rumored to finally launch its foldable iPhone next year, but we expect it to keep the same design as before.
