PS6 Gen Should Be Delayed Amid Price Hikes, Fans Reckon

Console players are hoping that Sony and Microsoft will consider pushing PS6 and next-gen Xbox release date windows amid ongoing price hikes. Players had only just gotten used to seeing $70 AAA games when both Nintendo and Microsoft confirmed $80 price tags going forward. This coupled with periodic increases in prices of hardware, accessories, and subscriptions has left gamers perturbed.

Is a PS6 release date set in 2027-28 too soon?

Neither Sony nor Microsoft have officially announced their next-gen consoles, but speculation suggests that the PS6 will launch in late 2027 at the earliest, or sometime in 2028. The 2027 release date speculation stems from past pattern of seven-year cycles as well as some leaks and rumors.

Most recently, for example, reports surfaced of a canceled Blade Runner game that was in development for PS6 at Supermassive Games. The project was supposedly given a release date target of 2027, leading fans to narrow down the console’s release window.

Even if the PS5 gen lasts longer than seven years, some players still aren’t ready for next gen, it seems.

“I would hope that Sony and Microsoft would hold off a couple of years in launching new hardware,” one concerned fan wrote on Reddit in response to Microsoft’s price announcement yesterday. “I do think this will mean cross-gen will last a longer time but I don’t think this will be a good enough reason for them to delay the new gen,” opined another.

Others echoed similar thoughts, with some going as far as saying that they won’t purchase a new console until the PS6 Pro is inevitably announced.
