Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Games We Want To See
While Nintendo has already confirmed that some Switch 1 games will get free updates on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, a select few will be re-released as "Nintendo Switch 2 Editions." These titles will boast more substantial enhancements that take advantage of the system's new features and improved hardware, and players who already own the original Switch 1 version can easily upgrade to the new edition by purchasing an "upgrade pack" from the eShop. While the exact enhancements will vary by the title, they include improved performance, increased resolution, and even some brand-new content, as is the case with Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. Other titles like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom (whose Switch 2 upgrades are free for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers) will even get a companion app that can help players locate shrines, share items, and other helpful functions.Nintendo has already announced a handful of Switch 2 Edition games coming in the next few months, but there are many more Switch 1 games that would benefit from receiving a Switch 2 upgrade. Here are some Switch 2 Editions we hope to see. Animal Crossing: New HorizonsWith the next Animal Crossing game still likely a while away, Nintendo could tide fans over by releasing a Switch 2 upgrade for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The system's extra power would greatly improve the game's performance, eliminating the frequent slowdowns that occur when your island is too densely decorated. Nintendo could also add some new content such as more furniture and crafting recipes to collect, giving players a compelling incentive to revisit the game while they await the series' next installment. Bayonetta 3Of every Switch game Nintendo has published in the past few years, Bayonetta 3 is most obviously screaming for a Switch 2 upgrade. Despite its exhilarating combat and setpieces, the gameplay is frequently compromised by the system's technical shortcomings. Encounters often push beyond the Switch 1's means, resulting in frame rate drops and inconsistent performance. A Switch 2 upgrade would remedy these issues, turning Bayonetta 3 into the experience it was always intended to be. Metroid Prime RemasteredMore than any other title thus far, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond best illustrates how much better Switch games look and run on Switch 2, and Metroid Prime Remastered deserves a similar touchup. The same suite of upgrades that Beyond is getting on the new console should be applied here as well. Mouse controls would allow for even more precise gunplay; improved load times would make traversing the world completely seamless; and 4K resolution would make the already-beautiful visuals even more stunning. Nintendo Switch SportsLike Super Mario Party Jamboree, Nintendo's Wii Sports successor is another popular Switch game that would be enriched by Switch 2's new features. A next-gen upgrade could add a new batch of sports designed around the system's unique hardware inputs. Mouse controls could allow for new types of sporting events (a la Drag X Drive), while the Switch 2 camera could display players' faces right in the game, making play sessions with friends much more personal. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year DoorPaper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remains not only the best installment in its series, but the best Mario RPG on Switch, and it would shine even more brightly on Switch 2. For all the improvements the Switch version boasts over the original, one area where it fares noticeably worse is its frame rate. While the GameCube version runs at 60fps, the remake only musters 30fps--a shortcoming that could easily be rectified with a Switch 2 upgrade. Moreover, 4K support would make the beautiful papercraft visuals even more stunning. Pikmin 4The latest installment in Nintendo's quirky strategy series marked a new high point for the franchise, and what better way to keep Pikmin in the spotlight than with a Switch 2 upgrade? 4K support in particular would be a substantial enhancement, showcasing the game's beautiful, natural environments in richer detail than ever before. Thanks to Switch 2's beefier hardware, Nintendo could also increase the frame rate to 60fps, while GameShare would make it easier to set up and take part in hectic Dandori Battles with friends. Pokemon Legends: ArceusWith Pokemon Legends: Z-A set to receive a Switch 2 Edition, it would be great to see Nintendo and developer Game Freak go back and give Pokemon Legends: Arceus a similar next-gen upgrade. Many of the game's technical shortcomings would be resolved on the new console. The system's added horsepower would improve performance and mitigate pop-in, while increased resolution would make the visuals crisper and accentuate the game's painterly art style. Super Mario Bros. The same suite of upgrades that Beyond is getting on the new console should be applied here as well. Mouse controls would allow for even more precise gunplay; improved load times would make traversing the world completely seamless; and 4K resolution would make the already-beautiful visuals even more stunning.
Nintendo Switch Sports

Like Super Mario Party Jamboree, Nintendo's Wii Sports successor is another popular Switch game that would be enriched by Switch 2's new features. A next-gen upgrade could add a new batch of sports designed around the system's unique hardware inputs. Mouse controls could allow for new types of sporting events (a la Drag X Drive), while the Switch 2 camera could display players' faces right in the game, making play sessions with friends much more personal.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remains not only the best installment in its series, but the best Mario RPG on Switch, and it would shine even more brightly on Switch 2. For all the improvements the Switch version boasts over the original, one area where it fares noticeably worse is its frame rate. Pikmin 4

The latest installment in Nintendo's quirky strategy series marked a new high point for the franchise, and what better way to keep Pikmin in the spotlight than with a Switch 2 upgrade? 4K support in particular would be a substantial enhancement, showcasing the game's beautiful, natural environments in richer detail than ever before. Thanks to Switch 2's beefier hardware, Nintendo could also increase the frame rate to 60fps, while GameShare would make it easier to set up and take part in hectic Dandori Battles with friends.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus

With Pokemon Legends: Z-A set to receive a Switch 2 Edition, it would be great to see Nintendo and developer Game Freak go back and give Pokemon Legends: Arceus a similar next-gen upgrade. Many of the game's technical shortcomings would be resolved on the new console. The system's added horsepower would improve performance and mitigate pop-in, while increased resolution would make the visuals crisper and accentuate the game's painterly art style.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder

As one of Nintendo's biggest critical and commercial successes on Switch, Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a prime candidate for a Switch 2 upgrade. As extensive as the adventure already is, Wonder would benefit greatly from a new batch of content designed exclusively for the next-gen system. Switch 2's extra strength would allow for even more creative and visually intensive Wonder effects, while GameShare would make it easier than ever to embark on the journey together with friends.
Super Mario Maker 2

Of all the Mario games released for the original Switch, Super Mario Maker 2 would benefit most from a Switch 2 upgrade. The system's mouse controls, in particular, would be a game-changer for level editing, making it considerably more intuitive to design and arrange courses while playing the game in docked mode. Nintendo could also utilize Switch 2's added horsepower to increase the number of elements that can be placed in a level, while the GameShare function would make it easier to set up multiplayer sessions.
Super Mario Odyssey

Super Mario Odyssey may be one of several games getting a free update for Switch 2, but the title deserves a true next-gen upgrade. Despite being one of Switch's earliest and best-selling titles, Odyssey never received a proper DLC expansion, which would make this a great opportunity for Nintendo to append it with some Switch 2-exclusive content. The game would also benefit from a Zelda Notes-style companion app, making it easier for players to navigate its vast worlds and track down every last Power Moon.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate stands as the grand culmination of Nintendo's long-running fighting series, and the game would get a second wind with a Switch 2 Edition. With a stable frame rate and wealth of content already, Ultimate requires very little in the way of touchups, but a Switch 2 upgrade could add 4K support for even crisper visuals. The game would also benefit from the console's GameShare feature, leaning into the series' party nature by making it easier to set up eight-player sessions.
Xenoblade Chronicles X

Despite only recently launching on Switch, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is an obvious choice for a Switch 2 Edition. The sprawling sci-fi epic already boasts some considerable improvements over the Wii U original, and it would benefit even more from Switch 2's stronger hardware. Increased frame rate would make the adventure smoother than ever, and higher resolution visuals would bring the hauntingly beautiful alien world of Mira to life in even greater detail. A hidden 60fps mode is reportedly already included, which may portend some kind of enhanced version we'll see on Switch 2.
WarioWare: Move It

Nintendo commonly uses the WarioWare series to demonstrate its unique gaming hardware, and the motion-controlled WarioWare: Move It would be an effective showcase for the Switch 2. Much like Super Mario Party Jamboree, Move It is perfectly suited for many of the upcoming system's new inputs, particularly its camera and mouse controls. Nintendo could add a new suite of minigames built around these two hardware features, demonstrating the fun--and hilarious--gameplay potential both afford.
