Summary: T-Mobile could bring back self-service SIM swapping. This is something that the company took away back in 2022 to combat SIM swap attacks. It will come back soon, but we are still dealing with early leaked information.
If you want to swap your number to another SIM card, it’s pretty easy to do… well, that is if you’re a Verizon or AT&T customer. For the past two and a half years, that wasn’t the case for T-Mobile customers. The carrier paused the self-service SIM swap function back in 2022, and it’s been disabled since then.
Well, it looks like T-Mobile has changed its mind. It might bring this ability, and people are excited about it.

The reason this feature was taken in the first place makes sense. SIM swapping scams are a pretty big issue. Basically, using stolen information about you, a person can remotely change your SIM card and transfer your number to their device. This means that they’ll be able to receive your 2FA (two-factor authentication) codes and log in to your accounts.
So, to combat this, T-Mobile took way the ability for people to change their SIM cards themselves. The company forced people to speak to a representative or go to a physical store to change their SIM cards.
According to people close to the matter (via The Mobile Report), T-Mobile will bring this function back and make it a feature of the T-Life app on April 24th. This is a part of a set of “T-Life Enhancements.”
Lately, T-Mobile has been going through some drama. For instance, the company has been charging people for free lines. Also, the company has been in hot water after yet again raising its prices. So, we’re sure that bringing back self-serve SIM swapping will be a nice little distraction for its users.
