Nintendo Promises Switch Versions Will Still Work After Upgrading To Switch 2 Editions

A handful of Switch games are receiving paid Switch 2 Editions, like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Kirby and the Forgotten Land. But then, does your original version still work on Switch after paying for those upgrades? Thankfully, Nintendo is saying yes, they'll still be compatible.On Nintendo's website, the company detailed that you still have access to both versions of a game after upgrading to a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. Specifically, Nintendo states: "After you upgrade, the original Nintendo Switch game can still be played on Nintendo Switch, though the features and content of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition can only be played on Nintendo Switch 2." The upgrade fee hasn't been revealed yet (it's possible they vary per title), but Nintendo has listed every game so far receiving Switch 2 Editions. Two Legend of Zelda games--Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom--will boast better frame rates and resolutions, HDR support, and a new Zelda notes app functionality when playing for their respective Switch 2 Editions.
