Content creation these days is arguably mostly mobile-first. You have editors like CapCut and short form platforms like TikTok and Instagram where time and attention is increasingly being drawn to. On top of this, the number of content creators being minted is rapidly increasing. But the gap between coming up with a concept, down to having the skills to execute the vision is undoubtedly large, especially when it comes to creating visual effects. Vidu is looking to close that gap with the launch of the Vidu Q1 model.

Vidu Q1 offers a major leap in generative video quality according to the team and focuses on a few key areas that has enabled Vidu Q1 to land itself on the top spot on VBench, an evaluation standard for generative video. In fact, Vidu has landed itself in first place, which has competitors like OpenAI’s Sora and Google Gemini following.

Though, for a company that’s recently sought to bring itself closer to the doors of Hollywood, for instance Vidu’s parent company ShengShu Technology inked a deal with Aura Productions to create short film series of sci-fi films that’ll be generated with Vidu, the ranking might not come as a surprise. The company has notably been among the first to launch and commercialize features like Multiple-Entity Consistency with Vidu 1.5, which enables you to keep the consistency between people, objects, and environments seamlessly within a video.

The first feature from Vidu is its Q1 update, which offers cinematic-grade visuals from both a quality standpoint and the types of transitions that Vidu is capable of achieving. More specifically, you’ll now be able to get 1080p quality clips of up to 5 seconds, which you’ll be hard pressed to find any that offer any better right now. And with the growing popularity of animated films being created with generative AI, Vidu Q1 also lands some major improvements on how animated characters move in a film. They’re less choppier, for a more consistent visual that doesn’t obviously feel like it was generated.

More importantly, visual effects-grade cinematic transitions are where Vidu Q1 really shines. Creators that are either established or amateurs but focused on mobile-first platforms, often they’re focused on the creative and content, and would love to hand off the heavy lifting of editing to an editor – especially when it comes to visual effects. But few creators can really afford the costs. Vidu Q1’s “First-to-Last Frame” just might be the game-changer that doesn’t require years of VFX know-how. Just upload two images or stills from your clip and type in a text prompt. Vidu Q1 automatically finds the best and most believable transition between the two using semantic understanding, even if the two images wouldn’t otherwise immediately draw a connection for audiences. In one example, input an image of a cat and lion, and Vidu Q1 can instantly find a transition that ‘evolves’ the cat into a lion – a process that might otherwise manually take days or even months for people just starting out in VFX.

“Vidu Q1 marks a pivotal step forward in making video generation smarter, more expressive, and more accessible,” said Yihang Luo, CEO of ShengShu Technology. “This new generative video model brings us closer to our vision of building the next-generation content creation platform – one that empowers anyone to turn imagination into reality with unprecedented ease, creative freedom and cinematic precision.”

Almost completing an apparent evolution to not only tackle visual filmmaking but also the audio, it’s clear that filmmaking is getting easier and easier to execute. Vidu Q1’s “AI Sound Effects” feature introduces high-fidelity audio, but for the first time among generative video platforms offers this in 48 kHz. Background music, sound effects can all be created through Vidu Q1. It makes it easier to see that the voice artists and musicians could sooner than we think, go by the wayside. The idea with AI Sound Effects is that like with the transition feature, you won’t need a professional to work on your sound engineering or create a track in the first place. Vidu Q1 can take care of that for you, whatever it might be and in whatever mood your video is in, Vidu’s generated audio is capable of syncing with the vibe. Plus the audio can be layered for up to ten seconds per track and timestamped to specific points within a video through simple text commands within the platform.
