Embracing the unknown, navigating tech as a women of color.
After 12 plus years in the manufacturing industry I started to have a panic attack when it came to my future. Seeing machines take the place of humans and having the age of 40 right around the corner I decided to start over and continue my education. I chose IT because of its diverse opportunities and continuous growth. I am all about learning new things and challenging myself. There are not many BIPOC people or women in IT as its dominated by white males. For me the adoption of a diverse workforce and equality is crucial in IT. Allowing different people with different ideas to get together as a team can create something amazing! Opening doors to what can be a powerful collaboration of thoughts. Talent doesn't have a gender, men and women can be on the same playing field, again it's a collaborative effort. For myself in tech I would like to be treated as an equal or just with respect period. So many women already have doubts and its scary starting over, but you will never know until you take the first step and lead by example by showing strength and also gratitude. In my current workplace I sign for the jobs that are "men only" in the opinions of many, also when I see a woman in a new position, I give her all the praise and encouragement! Go Girl!! My story is not the first and will not be the last, but as long as we continue to speak up and speak out for equality, we will not be ignored. Also, the sense of having a community is so important, having the support system in tough times is essential for success!
