Don’t you hate it when you don’t have enough space on one screen for all of your widgets? This is where stackable widgets come in. They allow you to combine your widgets into folders like you can with apps. While you can do this with several third-party launchers, Google stated that it’s looking into stackable widgets.
If you use a Samsung phone, then you should know what this feature is. Better yet, you should know if you use an iPhone, as this is where stackable widgets came from. With the widgets on top of each other, you’re able to swipe to cycle through them. So, a bunch of widgets can take up the same amount of space as one. It’s a super convenient feature.
Say, for instance, you use several music streaming services. Well, rather than having their widgets taking up half of your screen, you can stack them and cycle through to the one you want to listen to.
Google is looking into stackable widgets
Based on the wording, you shouldn’t hold out for this feature to come anytime soon. Google held a live Q&A on Thursday, and it talked about the platform going forward. The company even talked about Android XR.
One of the subjects brought up was stackable widgets. During the session, the team said that Google is looking into them for the AOSP (Android Open-Source Project). When it hits the AOSP, it will be much easier for more companies to bring this feature to their own phones. The code will already be there, so they won’t have to write their own. Samsung had to do this when it brought the stackable widgets to One UI.
So, it’s good to know that Google is at least considering this feature. However, this isn’t written in stone. We don’t know if the company started working on it at all. All we know is that it’s thinking about it.
Hopefully, Google does bring this feature. It’s such a useful one for people who want to better manage their home screens.
