Samsung has dominated the foldable phone market for some time now. But lately, some folks have been wondering if their foldable innovation has hit a bit of a plateau. When the first whispers about the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7 started circulating, it seemed like we were in for a design that looked awfully familiar to the Galaxy Z Flip 6. This wouldn’t have been a huge shock given Samsung’s recent track record.
One UI 8 files confirm big cover display for the Galaxy Z Flip 7
However, we recently shared exclusive renders showing that Samsung will opt for a larger secondary display. The device would offer a “full-screen” experience like that of the Motorola Razr 60 Ultra. Now, a discovery by Android Authority has confirmed this much larger cover panel.
Our renders showcased a stunning 4-inch cover display for the Galaxy Z Flip 7. This display stretches across the entire front of the device, with neat little cutouts just for the two cameras.
Now, this same design has been spotted in the One UI 8 firmware. More specifically, the source found animation files with the designs of the Galaxy Z Flip 5, Flip 6, and the upcoming Flip 7. The Flip 5 and 6 animations pretty much match what we see on the current devices right now. But the Flip 7 animation? It clearly showcases that expanded cover display. The design matches up perfectly with our leaked renders.
According to reports, this larger cover display could be the most significant change we see on the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Apparently, a lot of the other specs might stay the same as its predecessor. That could mean we’ll see a familiar 6.8-inch inner display, a trusty 50MP primary camera, and a decent 12MP ultrawide lens.
So, Samsung might be ready to shake things up a little in the flip phone arena after all. A larger cover display could seriously enhance usability, making it easier to check notifications, take quick selfies, and maybe even run more apps without flipping open the phone. If these rumors pan out, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 could be a pretty compelling upgrade. We’ll be keeping our ears to the ground for more details as we get closer to its launch.
