Remember when Apple released iOS 17? What a hot mess it was? It was full of bugs and performance issues, despite Apple’s attempts to resolve them. While iOS 18 was a much better and stable update, Apple hopes to make iOS 19 even more stable. This is according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in the latest version of his Power On newsletter.
Aiming for a more stable release
According to Gurman, “Besides the AI additions and interface changes, Apple is pushing engineers to ensure that this year’s releases are more functional and less glitchy. Past upgrades were criticized for bugs and features that sometimes didn’t work properly.”
That being said, we are keeping our fingers crossed. Unlike iOS 17 to iOS 18, which kept the design essentially the same, iOS 19 will be Apple’s biggest UI revamp since iOS 7. This means that, in addition to all the new features, there will be new animations and icons across the board. More new things mean more areas for things to go wrong. However, if Gurman’s report is accurate, Apple will try its best to get things right and make iOS 19 more stable.
Massive changes in iOS 19
We are looking forward to iOS 19, though. Since iOS 7, Apple hasn’t really made any drastic changes to the design of iOS. It has kept the design similar, just with some improvements and tweaks over the years. However, iOS 19 will bring a brand new design to the table. According to the leaks and rumors, iOS 19 will adopt a design similar to Apple’s visionOS platform, which powers the Vision Pro headset.
From what we’ve seen, iOS 19 could introduce more rounded icons. It will also introduce a new glass-like effect. Gurman mentioned in the past, “Things like hamburger menus and menu buttons, and the menu bar, and buttons for closing applications, the way the dock looks and acts. There are a lot of differences across the operating system. So it’s about adding consistency there.”
We’ve also heard that Apple could borrow a feature from Samsung, where in iOS 19, users can hook up their iPhones to an external display over USB-C and get a DeX-like experience. Apple will officially unveil iOS 19 at WWDC 2025 which is slated for June. So, we should have more details then.
